KBENRENRUN EARNS CARNARVON CUP FAVOURITISM

KBENRENRUN & ANDREW MASTERS
By Geoff Whittle
Track star Kbenrenrun served further notice that he will be the horse to beat in next Saturday's $40,000 2000 metre Carnarvon Cup when he won his fifth race at the Massey Bay track on Saturday.
In winning the Peter Evans Memorial by one length Kbenrenrun carried 58 kilos and had the call over cup rival Racso who raced with 2.5 kilograms less after receiving a good run under apprentice Michael Grantham.
Kbenrenrun settled behind the pacemakers but was livened up by Masters before the turn and swung for home challenging for the lead. The chestnut surged away in the straight and safely held Racso who chased hard and Truvic, another cup prospect was a clear third.
Kbenrenrun's win was the second leg of a double for the combination of astute local trainer Peter Daly and stable jockey Andrew Masters.
Earlier in race three, the Sweeter Bananas Sprint, the pair were successful with another 2010 track specialist Detroit Tiger who denied local star Liberoo his 17th win on the track.
Carrying his biggest career weight of 63 kilos Liberoo made a bold attempt to lead all the way under apprentice Alex Lawrence. However Masters utilised his five kilogram advantage perfectly and never let the speedster get away, applying pressure a long way from home.
Detroit Tiger scored his fifth win on the track from six starts this season when he over-powered Liberoo down the straight, winning by over two-lengths.
With big weights catching up with him, Liberoo is likely to have his final career run in the Carnarvon Sprint next Saturday .
Experienced jockey Antionette Armes rode a double also with Glen Cortes' Comfyaz in race one and True Note trained by local stalwart Geoff Rodier in the fourth event.
Apprentice Michael Grantham scored his third career win with the MIchelle Vallentine prepared Moniker for prominent local owner Laurie Simmons in the second event.
Alex Lawrence continued to ride in good touch at Carnarvon by getting Glen Cortes' On The Prey home in the final event. The win was the apprentice's third for the season at Massey Bay.
Cortes will embark on a trip to Kalgoorlie on Monday with Broome Cup winner Dance On Board in search of the Goldfields round riches.
In his first trip to the Goldfields city Cortes will fancy his chances with the tough galloper in the $150,000 Kalgoorlie Cup.
